7 Different Types of Stairs

Straight run stairs: most common type of stair, there less expensive to build, but require a long open space

L-stairs: has one turn ( 90 degrees), has only one landing, used when theres not enough space for straight run stairs.

Double L-stairs: Has two landings and two turns, expensive to build, and they break up the floor plan.
U-stairs: Flights are parallel (180 degrees), only one landing, and there are three types of U-stairs ( open, closed, and boxed)

Winder stairs: No landing during run, pie shaped steps, not very safe because of the steps shape.

Spiral stairs: used when little space is available, gaining in popularity, not safe also because of the step shape.

Circular stairs:  Irregular curve, trapiziod shaped steps, and expensive to build.

Roof Designs

Gable Roof: triangular, allows rain and snow to run off easily, and there the most common roof in the U.S

Hip Roof: all sides slope downward towards the walls, holds up well in high winds, and are more difficult to construct.

Flat Roof: made of material that allow water to run off easily, last longer if maintained, and more expensive to build.

Shed Roof: allows easy runoff, creates more usable space inside, and easy to maintain

Butterfly Roof: useful in climates with high winds, collects rainfall easily, and it was a mid-century modern look

Gambel Roof: maximizes head space, its a mix between a gable and a hip roof, and allows easy runoff

Dutch Hip Roof: is known to be very attractive, the gable section gives the roof more character, and provides for additional ventalation.

Mansard Roof: a simple way to add more stories, usually include dormers at the very top to give it moe character, and usually the uppermost level cant be seen from the ground.

A-Frame Roof: design inspired by the teepee, the slopes nearly touch the ground, and allows for easy snow and rain runoff

Curved panel Roof: are becoming more popular, usually made of metal, and this type of roof adds uniquness and is appealing to the eye.
